Former UCLA basketball coach and hall of famer John Wooden is said to be in “grave” condition at a Los Angeles, Calif., hospital.
UCLA officials announced, Friday, that Wooden had been hospitalized since May 26 for dehydration, but did not elaborate on his health.
The 99-year-old is considered the most successful coach in the history of college basketball.
As a player at Purdue in the early 1930s, Wooden was a three-year All-American and college basketball player of the year. Yet, he was an even better coach.
From 1948 to 1975, Wooden was head coach of men’s basketball at UCLA.
He led the team to 10 national championships in 12 years — seven of them consecutively. Wooden also claimed a record 88 straight wins and in four seasons his team had 30 victories without a single loss.
Wooden is said to be resting comfortably at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
In a statement, Friday, the family thanked Wooden’s fans for their prayers.
