School Burning Prompts Call for India President to Protect Christians

India’s president is being pressed to protect Christians in the country’s northern Kashmir region after a mob burned down the oldest school there and also attacked other Christian institutions nearby.

“I am pained to state that though the local authorities were informed about a possible attack … no protection was provided,” stated the Rt. Rev. Pradeep Kumar Samantaroy in a message to President Pratibha Patil. Read more of this post

New dome installed on Joseph’s Tomb


The expedited renovation of Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus took a major step forward overnight Monday, when a new dome was installed in the place of the one that was destroyed 10 years ago, when a Palestinian mob ransacked the structure, smashing the dome with pickaxes and setting the compound on fire.

According to the spokesman for the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria, smaller-scale work lasting around 10 more days remains to be done before the refurbishment is complete. Read more of this post

‘Top 100’ Churches List Released amid Some Criticism

The annual Outreach 100 list of the largest and fastest-growing churches in America is out but absent from the list is a number of megachurches that were documented in previous years.

The report is not a comprehensive list. Data is based on a self-reported survey and not an independent investigation. This year, however, several churches that once participated chose to opt out of the survey. Read more of this post

Rare Medieval “Pocket” Bible Finds Home in the U.S.

Patricia King(Columbia, S.C.) – WIS News reports that the University of South Carolina has acquired a rare, medieval pocket Bible written in Oxford, England around 1240.

Dr. Scott Gwara, a USC medievalist, explained that most medieval Bibles in the United States are from France or Italy, and there are less than 100.

“Simply put,” he said, “the Bible is the most important book in the Western world. This one happens to be a fabulous teaching aid.

Pocket Bibles are innovative. First produced around 1200, they enabled clergy to have the Bible in a single, portable volume. Read more of this post
